Simple Tips To Save Electricity In The Living Room:

  • Install ceiling fans.
  • Keep curtains closed. This prevents heat loss in the winter and heat gain in the summer.
  • Close off unheated areas.
  • Clean heating and air-conditioner filters regularly.
  • Turn off appliances when you aren't using them
  • Remove dust and fluff from the fan and reflective surfaces of heater to keep clean, efficient, and safe.
  • Replace standard globes with energy-saving compact flourescent globes, particularly in high-use areas, and make sure you use the lowest wattage light needed.

Goodyear Electrical Energy Efficiency Page

There are dozens of areas where you can do your part to conserve energy in the home, particularly when it comes to the use of electricity. Turning lights and televisions off when they’re not in use is only the beginning. There are many other areas where you waste electricity and may not even realize it. Some of these are obvious and others may be a surprise to you. Our Goodyear electricians are called upon often to fix problems that could have been avoided if a few simple items were attended to.

What kind of light bulbs do you use in your lamps and overhead lights? If you have newer lighting fixtures or lamps in your home there is a good chance that they are designed to be used with a specific type of light bulb for maximum energy efficiency. Do you pay attention to the factory recommendation or just go out and buy cheaper bulbs, thinking that you’re saving money? There is a good chance that you’re actually spending more on electricity and the bulbs are burning out faster if you do.

Do you have your outdoor lighting on a timer or have a motion sensor attached to it? Outside lighting can be put in place for security purposes but it doesn’t need to be on all the time. Installing a motion sensor gives you the same protection without burning the same amount of electricity. If someone walks into your yard or if you happen to go out yourself in the middle of the night, the lights will come on and stay on only as long as you time them to, or until all motion stops.

Do you have new appliances in your kitchen, bathroom and laundry room? When it comes to appliances that run on electricity you are not saving any money by holding on to those old machines. It may cost a few dollars to replace a washer, dryer, water heater, dishwasher, or electric stove, but it is a certainty that the new appliance will be far more energy efficient that the old one is. Even your microwave can be upgraded and the newer ones aren’t only more efficient, they’re cheaper than your old one was.
